LO: To research the history, companies and regulators in the television industry
- Publicly owned TV channel- includes radio, television and other electronic media outlets.
- Commercial TV channel- the broadcasting of television programmes and radio programming by privately owned corperate media
- Convergence- the merging of mass communication outlets – print, television, radio, the Internet along with portable and interactive technologies through various digital media platforms.
- Protecting children from harmful material on TV and radio is one of Ofcom's most important duties.
- Segmented market- when you divide your audience into different groups based on various criteria, such as demographics and media use.
- Mainstream- A term used to refer collectively to the various large mass news media that influence many people, and both reflect and shape prevailing currents of thought.
- Self regulating- The ability to manage disruptive emotions and impulses.
- Franchise- A collection of related media in which several derivative works have been produced from an original creative work of fiction, such as a film, a work of literature, a television program or a video game.
- Channel surfing- The practice of quickly scanning through different television channels or radio frequencies to find something interesting to watch or listen to.
- PSB- Public service broadcasting
- TV license- allows you to watch or record live TV programmes on any channel, and to download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer.
